Knee Wraps
Knee support is used for many different reasons. Some people wear one on long walks or hikes, others for fitness, dancing or gardening, while others use it for heavy squats in the gym. The knee is involved in almost every step we take, and a close-fitting support gently surrounds the joint, helps retain warmth and gives a feeling of stability during movement. This category includes knee supports and knee sleeves for active days and training: lightweight elastic supports, warm neoprene models, protective knee pads and knee wraps in different sizes.

Who can use a knee support?
Knee supports are worn by people of different ages and lifestyles. They are used for long walks, Nordic walking and hiking, as well as fitness, yoga, dancing and cycling. Many people also use a knee support for everyday activities such as gardening or household tasks that involve spending time on the knees. Knee supports are also popular in sport, including running, team sports, CrossFit and strength training.
Types of knee supports
- Elastic supports - lightweight and soft, barely noticeable under clothing and flexible enough for normal knee movement. Suitable for walking, running and everyday activity.
- Neoprene supports - denser and warmer. They help retain warmth around the joint and are often chosen for training, cooler weather and outdoor activity.
- Adjustable supports - feature hook-and-loop straps or an open kneecap area. The fit can be adjusted, and they can be easier to put on than a closed sleeve.
- Protective knee pads - include soft padding at the front. They protect the knee from impact and friction when kneeling during gardening or household tasks, as well as in dance, volleyball and combat sports.
- Knee wraps - long, dense wraps wound tightly around the knee. They are primarily a tool for heavy lifting and powerlifting and are not generally needed for everyday use or ordinary workouts.
- Orthopaedic supports and braces - may include rigid stays or hinges. These are used for medical conditions or after knee injuries and should be selected with a doctor.
How to choose a knee support
- Purpose. For walking and everyday activity, choose a soft elastic support; for training, a neoprene model; for working on the knees, a protective knee pad.
- Size. The most important factor. A loose support may slide down, while one that is too tight can compress the leg excessively. Follow the manufacturer's size chart.
- Ease of putting it on. If a closed sleeve is difficult to pull over the foot, choose a hook-and-loop model that can be fastened around the knee.
- Material. Breathable elastic fabrics are more comfortable in warm weather and for longer wear, while neoprene is better suited to cooler conditions and training.
Frequently asked questions
How is an everyday knee support different from a sports knee support?
Knee supports for everyday activity are generally lighter and softer, making them comfortable for walking or wearing under clothing. Sports models, especially neoprene ones, are denser and warmer and are designed for training loads. Knee wraps are a separate category intended for heavy lifting.
How long can I wear a knee support?
A support is generally worn during activity, such as walking, training or gardening. There is usually no need to wear it all day without a break. If your knee requires continuous support, seek medical advice.
Can I wear a knee support for knee pain or osteoarthritis?
A standard sports support is not intended as treatment. If you have pain, swelling, osteoarthritis or a previous injury, speak to a doctor. If necessary, a professional can recommend an orthopaedic support or brace with an appropriate level of fixation.
