“Best before?”

Understand the difference. Reduce food waste.

Do the dates on sports nutrition confuse you? You’re not alone. “Best before” and “use by” labels are often mixed up, but they refer to different things — quality and safety.

Best before = quality recommendation

The “best before” date indicates how long the manufacturer guarantees the product’s best taste, aroma, and texture. It is not the final safe consumption date.

  • common on dry and long-lasting products (protein powders, bars, cereals, nuts, etc.);
  • when stored correctly, the product can still be consumed after this date;
  • the taste or texture may change slightly, but the product can still be safe to eat — use your senses (look, smell, taste).

Use by = safety deadline

The “use by” date is a safety limit for perishable foods.

  • typical for ready-to-drink beverages, chilled products, dairy, meat and fish;
  • after the “use by” date, the product must not be eaten or sold;
  • ignoring this date may pose a health risk even if the product appears “normal”.

Our online store never sells products past their “use by” date.

Buy smart. Waste less.

When you understand what “best before” and “use by” really mean, making smart choices becomes easier.

  • you reduce food waste;
  • you save money;
  • you use sports nutrition safely and consciously.
