Collagen is mainly composed of three amino acids — proline, hydroxyproline and glycine — arranged in long, tightly coiled chains. This structure makes it durable and strong, yet limits its passage through the intestinal wall even after digestion. For collagen, hydrolysis means breaking tissues into smaller particles — peptides which, thanks to hydration, are better absorbed into tissues and bind to them.

In addition, hydrolysis provides product stability, reducing the need for preservatives. Overall, hydrolysate is the most bioavailable form of collagen due to its high stability and small particle size.
