Collagen consists mainly of three amino acids — proline, hydroxyproline and glycine — in long, tightly coiled chains. This structure makes it durable and strong, but at the same time limits its passage through the intestinal wall even after digestion. In the case of collagen, the hydrolysis process means breaking down tissues into smaller particles — peptides, which, thanks to hydration, are better absorbed into tissues and bind with them.
