How do I put on a knee support correctly?
Closed elastic or neoprene knee support
- Sit down and make sure the skin is dry and free from cream.
- Slide the support over your foot and pull it onto the lower leg.
- Work it upwards with small movements, gripping it from different sides rather than pulling hard on one edge.
- Position the support so that its centre sits over the kneecap.
- Stand up, take a few steps and adjust the position if necessary.
A tight knee support can be easier to put on using a thin plastic bag: place the bag over your foot, pull the support over it and then remove the bag.
Hook-and-loop knee support
- Wrap the support around the knee so that the opening or padded section is positioned over the kneecap.
- Fasten the lower strap first, followed by the upper strap.
- Adjust the tightness: the support should stay in place without excessively compressing the leg.
Knee wraps
- Start wrapping slightly below the knee at the upper part of the lower leg.
- Wrap from the bottom upwards with tension so that each turn overlaps the previous one.
- Finish slightly above the knee and secure the end.
- Remove the wraps immediately after the load.
When to loosen or remove the support
If you notice numbness, tingling or loss of sensation in the leg, loosen or remove the support immediately.
